Specific Aims of the Project in Serbia

  • To increase social inclusion of homebased women workers in 10 towns in Serbia by education, exchange of information and socializing.

  • To make the workers in the territory of Serbia visible by media promotion.

What Has Been Done So Far

At the very beginning of the Project a kick-off meeting with representatives of organizations from the region was organized in Belgrade, as the regional centre. At the meeting were agreed details of activities and made draft Action Plans at the national level.

The project of Building Regional Centres is a follow-up of the Mapping Programme activities. Since a database on homebased women workers was formed in the scope of the Mapping Programme, it was decided that the database should be updated within the framework of the BRC Project.

In the scope of the Mapping Programme research was conducted in 8 towns of Serbia, in the scope of the BRC Project in 3 more towns up to now. A unique report on mapping of homebased women workers in Serbia will be made at the end of the Project.

In October 2004 in Belgrade were held 3 one-day workshops. Two of them had the topic of formalizing the work of homebased women workers, and the guests were representatives of the Business Centre Belgrade, National Employment Service. One of the workshops was delivered for the so-called dependent homebased women workers, where the participants had the opportunity to hear more about homebased work home and abroad, and about examples of associating of dependent workers worldwide.

In November 2004 the National Workshop took place in Belgrade; there were 27 participants from 10 towns of Serbia. The participants defined, among other, their problems and proposed ac action plan. On the last day of the workshop, as a guest at the round table on homebased work, present was Miss Ana Ljubojević from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Regional Project “Labour Relations and Social Dialogue in Southeast Europe”, Belgrade.

December, March and April were dedicated to one-day workshops in Trstenik, Kikinda and Zrenjanin. We discussed homebased work, ILO Convention No. 177 on Homebased Work, problems that homebased women workers face in Ser5bia and experiences from other countries.

In December FELICITAS organized an exhibition and promotion of the Association in the premises of the Vračar Club in Krunska Street, in Belgrade, where members of the Association and guests had an opportunity to socialize in a pleasant ambience, to have a look at women’s works and buy New Year gifts.

Through activities of the Association the users of our services and members established an informal network for exchanging information, experiences and elaborating ideas. One of the examples is cooperation of a member from Kotor with a member from Belgrade, who organized an exhibition for each other in the respective towns.

In July was delivered a regional workshop in Belgrade for women dealing with weaving, in cooperation with the Women’s Association Vizija from Belgrade and their weaving studio. Guests at the workshop were women weavers from Macedonia, the members of the partner organisation PPC Stip.

The analysis of our Labour Law and its Articles referring homebased work is underway, as well as preparation of the proposal for micro crediting in the scope of self-help groups.

Plans

For the month of September is foreseen a presentation of Felicitas in the town of Zrenjanin through an exhibition of works of its members.

For the month of October is foreseen the final regional workshop of the BRC Project with participants from all the countries involved in the Project.
